"A Taste of Sweden"

"In the summer of 2008 my husband and I visited Sweden to trace our Swedish roots. We were able to trace the roots of seven of our grandparents. From this experience I created a series of paintings of scenes. I Hope you enjoy these paintings!"  Rose

   

 

"Kalleryds Kyrka"

 My fathers home church in Sweden is awesome. He attended this church until he was 19 years old when he come to America. My grandparents are buried in this cemetery.

 

 

 

"Hudene Stone Bridge" 

This stone bridge in central Sweden is several hundred years old. It is built without the use of cement. My grandfather helped build one like this in central Minnesota.

 

 

 

"Gamla Stan - Kalmar"

On the east coast of Sweden is the dramatic town of Kalmar. Many centers of the old towns have been preserved and are occupied during the summer months.

 

 

 

"Swedish Window"

The Swedes love coffee and it is some of the best coffee in the world!  Driving along a country road we discovered this lovely coffee house. The geraniums in the window have been nurtured all winter.

 

 

 

"Jamptland" 

This is a province in Sweden just south of Lapland. long the fjord-like coast are lovely little farms.

 

 

 

"Folen Kvarn"

Sweden preserves its old buildings. This window from an old mill is also a coffee house.

 

 

 

"Midsummer's Day"

There is nothing more beautiful than the middle of June when all the flowers are blooming. The days are long and the Swedish people celebrate this fantastic time of the year.

 

 

 

"Olaf Westberg's Place"

We were able to find the actual homes of some of our great, great grandparents. This old house had to be the subject of a painting.

 

 

 

"Oland"

This is an island off the east coast of Sweden on the Baltic Sea. The old picturesque windmills are preserved all over the island.

 

 

 

"Skansen"

Hollyhocks bloom all summer. Skansen is in Stockholm. It boasts a hugh collection of restored buildings from all over Sweden. These flowers were blooming against a window of an old log cabin.

 

 

 

"The High Coast"

In central Sweden the High Coast is the Fjord country of Sweden. The rain and mist provide the beautiful forests, fields and pastures.

 

 

 

"Relics"

The old wooden boats are full of water. It looks like the one in the foreground needs restoration.

 

 

 

"Orebro"

The name of this historic town in central Sweden implies bridges.  There are many bridges in the center of town that surrounds the old Medieval castle.
